Due to recent heavy rains, yesterday’s Rio Grande trip was quite a different experience. With almost a foot more water in the river, the current was very strong in many places, with lots of whirlpools forming. Getting up to Medio Canyon needed a concerted effort, and fortunately we are in great paddling condition!
The river had eroded much of the existing banks. Landing places were few and far between, and all had heavy mud. Nevertheless, as always it was a deeply expansive and meaningful adventure, connecting with a few beaver who swam very near our boats, nature, and the elements.
