Artist's Notes:
Sigils and the Equinox and Dark Skies Series use pigment concentrates mixed with water-based urethane. They were made with brushes rather than painting knives.
The works have a very spontaneous, spacious, multi-dimensional feeling for me, echoing the forces that emerge in Spring and/or the mystery of the night skies.
Creating them was a magical experience, requiring a great deal of trust, being fully in the process, and letting go of expectations.

Artist's Notes:
Blues for the Night Queen — This series combines the two techniques of the original abstract expressionists, color field and gestural painting. I begin with a brushed background of pigment concentrate mixed with a water-based urethane binder, and then riff out on top of it.
The series title is a play on traditional blues music, telling of the bittersweetness of life; the color blue, which appears in various hues in all of the works; and the Goddess of the Night Sky, keeper of myths and magic. I find these paintings to be filled with luminosity and mystery, evoking images and experiences of the dreamtime.
