A gorgeous fall-type day for our kayak trip. Despite significantly lower water levels, which made navigation very tricky and currents quite strong in places, we went about 6 miles upriver to Medio Canyon, and then floated back to Cochiti Canyon for lunch. There was lots less mud than last week, and with gentle winds on the way back I decided to carry the camera rather than stow it in a drybag in Diana’s boat.
So there are many different views among the photographs, including a few of me!
But as can often happen at Cochiti, a very strong headwind of about 20 knots blew up unexpectedly, making the last part of the paddle quite an adventure. There were whitecaps and a fair amount of spray, but our 18 seasons of experience saw us through.
