We went in the opposite of our usual direction on this hike. It meant I had lots more energy for photographing in the first areas.
One very interesting thing we noticed was the emergence of piñon pine seedlings and small trees. Many of them had died about 10 years ago due to prolonged drought and bark beetle infestations. It was a powerful reminder of how new life emerges from death.
Most of the trail skirts a deep canyon.
The area is filled with many interesting rocks and huge boulders.
In addition to the usual vistas, there were also some beautiful wildflowers, including one of a barrel cactus.
With warm sunshine and cool breezes, it was a most delightful experience.
