Black and White photographs can be more dramatic than color, because they can reveal the essence of things in a more concentrated way.
This kind of photography can be very challenging, however, because tonal range and contrast are even more important. The images show places, events, people, and objects stripped down to the very core.
Prior to digital photography, shooting b&w either meant having to forego color, or carry two camera bodies. Now it is possible to have both options for each image. What a world of difference that makes!
